Hugo Carlos Pereira

My application to the Post-Graduation in High Performance Football Coaching in the Faculty of Human Kinetics serves the main purpose of enhancing the level of competence in my role as a football coach by engaging in a high demanding practical and research-oriented environment. My football career – both as player and coach – has been evolving in parallel with the academic pathway. I have started my academic journey graduating in Physical Education Teaching (4 years), followed by an Educational Sciences degree, and later a Master’s in Education. Before I came to Norway in 2012 I was enrolled in a PhD. Education at the University of Lisbon’s’ Education Institute (where I only completed the 1^st semester).

I believe that a close link between the academic environment and the professional practice in football can contribute to a better coaching delivery on and off the training ground – with the football players as the ultimate benefiters. I have been recognized by former employers with this level of competence. My work in Rosenborg BK has been going in that direction as well. To enroll in this post-graduate course, while still working full-time in the club, will offer many challenges, but also many rewards.

In a self-assessment process, I recognize a need of a better and more fluent understanding of the conceptual and methodological dimensions in the High Performance Football Coaching field of study. I am strongly motivated to fill that gap and I believe that engaging in this learning process with FMH is a step in the right direction.
